Composition / Framing

Every session consists of several sets, and during the planning, we will discuss the various composition types - the framing.

Each composition has its requirements and needs the model to be adequately prepared. Please find below the most common framings and their requirements.

Beauty Shot / Close Up

Image

The beauty shot is the most intense framing in photography. The viewer establishes a direct and very fierce connection to the subject.

Usage
The close portrait is famous for intense projects like sensual imagery or artistic make-up shots.
Preparation
As the viewer comes close, you must pay attention to your skin, eyelashes, eyebrows and make-up. Your nails should be clean or perfectly done, as your hands might be in the frame.

Portrait / Head Shot

Image

The very popular portrait/headshot is a flattering composition from head to shoulders. Posing and body tension plays an important role here.

Usage
The portrait is used in various ways and can be anything from a fun shot to a business shot.
Preparation
Pay attention to your skin, eyelashes and eyebrows, make-up and hairstyle. Clothing becomes important here and should match the session's theme and your make-up.

Half Body

Image

Cropped right above the hips, the half-body shot is one of the essential fashion and editorial compositions.

Usage
Fashion/clothing, editorial, extended contextual portraits.
Preparation
The Half Body shot is perfect for displaying all your features, so pay attention to your face, hair, and body. Clothing is essential and has to match the theme.

Two Thirds

Image

The Two-Thirds is the second essential framing for editorial and fashion photography. Cropped right above the knees, it displays the features of the subject at their best.

Usage
All projects include body expression and clothing, especially underwear and boudoir photography.
Preparation
While make-up is still essential, pay attention to your hair style, body skin and clothing. Everything has to fit the theme. Also, check that you're not wearing any unwanted jewellery or anything on your wrist.

Three Quarters

Image

The Three Quarters is an intermediate composition between the Two Thirds and Full Body / Full-Length shoot. It is cropped right over the ankle and is especially useful to draw attention to the hips and legs.

Full Body

Image

The Full Body shot is widely used for all occasions and is especially useful to accentuate the legs.

Preparation
Like the Two Thirds and Three Quarter, the model's body is the centre of the image and the legs and feet. Make sure your legs are cleaned and shaved, any legwear (pantyhose, tights) is without runs, and shoes are clean and polished.
